About Sky Airline

Sky Airline is the low-cost Chilean airline brand that flies under the stylization of SꓘY. It is the second biggest airline in the country after the national LATAM, founded in 2001 and based at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago. Sky was the pioneer low-cost airline in Chile and has already expanded its operations throughout the continent by opening subsidiaries in Peru and Ecuador. Being one of the airlines in Latin America with one of the newest all-Airbus A320neo fleets, Sky offers lower prices and new cabins for the same routes compared to some of its traditional rivals.

Types of Fares in Detail: Which One to Choose?

Book Cheap Sky Airline Flight Today!

Sky Airline makes the fare hierarchy much simpler compared to traditional airlines, yet the distinctions should be considered when the total cost of the trip is compared. Here is the detailed information about each tier of fares offered by the company:

  • Sky Basic - The lowest price option and Sky's budget offering. You get one piece of carry-on baggage which either fits in your personal luggage compartment or as a small bag under the seat, auto-assigned seating (you can't pick your seat), and no changes or cancellations after booking.
  • Sky Full - The intermediate price option and what most travelers actually pay for. In addition to all the benefits of Basic, you get one bag of checked baggage (usually 23kg) and the possibility to select your own seat while making your booking.
  • Sky Flex - The option designed especially for flexible bookings. The key advantage is the fact that any date changes are free of charge (depending on the availability and price difference of the new route). It is a good choice if you are not sure of your travel dates.
  • Sky Premium - Sky's equivalent of the comfort class and definitely not business class. You get some extra legroom in a dedicated cabin area, priority check-in service at the airport counter, and access to a lounge on some routes.

Important Point: Compare most cross-checks of Sky Airline fares against every other carrier flying the same route in real time - this matters more in South America than almost anywhere else, since low-cost and legacy pricing on routes like Santiago.

A Network Built Around Chile

Sky does not compete on the same few mega-routes that all South American carriers jockey for; instead, it uses a “Peru-hub” operation in conjunction with its base in Santiago, employing Lima as a second point of entry into markets a wholly Chilean airline might find difficult to access.

  • Santiago - The base of Sky at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport and the focus of its domestic network. In Santiago, Sky serves all of Chile from north to south, offering flights between desert cities such as Arica and Iquique and Patagonian cities such as Punta Arenas.
  • Lima - Secondary hub of Sky operated by its Peruvian subsidiary. Through Lima, Sky connects domestic routes within Peru to those throughout Chile and is increasingly being used as an entry point into the Caribbean and North America with interlining partners such as United.
  • Buenos Aires - Sky's principal port of entry in Argentina, via two airports: Ezeiza (EZE) for international flights and Aeroparque (AEP) for domestic links, offering several options to enter the most dynamic air travel market of South America.
  • São Paulo & Rio de Janeiro - the two main hubs in Sky's expanding network in Brazil, lately complemented by flights to Belo Horizonte and Brasilia, and indicative of the airline’s efforts to capture a bigger share of the Chile-Brazil corridor from traditional carriers.
  • Montevideo - Sky's budding hub, allowing the airline to expand its network by linking other destinations in the Southern Cone in parallel with the growth in Uruguayan tourism.

As a benefit of such a dual-hub strategy, it brings international reach to small Chilean cities that would not otherwise be able to access international flights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many times, yes. By using Comparemost, one may get an idea about whether some other airlines, such as GOL, Aerolíneas Argentinas, LATAM, and others, offer a better deal than Sky Airlines on the same route.

Sky does not offer direct services to destinations outside of South America. However, via partnership programs with United and TAP, among others, passengers will be able to reach destinations outside of the region.

The only difference between these operations is that Sky Airline operates in Peru as well as Chile as separate certificated subsidiaries, which have the same brand, aircraft type, and reservation systems.

Sky Basic consists of hand luggage only; separate checked baggage will have to be bought or included in the Sky Full fare or above.

For domestic flights within Chile: 3-6 weeks prior, and for international flights to Peru, Argentina, or Brazil: 6-12 weeks in advance.
