About Alaska Airlines

What started as a small regional airline of the Pacific Northwest has now evolved into one of the nation's premier networks of domestic travel. In fact, after its recent acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska now has over 140 destinations covering North America, Central America, Asia, and the Pacific. As an official member of the oneworld Alliance, all Alaska guests will gain access to 30 airlines around the globe for earning and redeeming miles, along with over 1,000 global destinations to reach. For West Coast travelers especially, there is no better airline connection network in the entire United States. Alaska Airlines Fare Classes: Which is Best?

Book Alaska Airlines Flights Online

Alaska Airlines keeps its fare system simple and useful. Alaska's fare classes consist of: Saver, Main, Premium, and First Class-which you can think of like a progression of lowest to highest price.

  • Saver Fare (Basic Economy): The cheapest price tier offered by Alaska. These are the only seats that are not eligible for advanced seat assignment, it last to board the plane (Group F), and only allow 50% of the ticket to be refunded to you as credit if cancelled at least 14 days before departure. You will also be denied a checked bag with this type of ticket.
  • Main Cabin: The standard economy class which allows you to pick your seat in advance. There is no fee to change your ticket on this level of fare if it is changed before the flight; however you will need to pay the difference in the fares if one is available. One bag checked is denied.
  • Premium Class: Priority boarding, 4 extra inches of legroom as compared to Main Cabin seating, and free alcoholic beverages (wine, beer, and cocktails) on most flights over 550 km. This is a higher fare but can also be purchased as an upgrade.
  • First Class: The top-of-the-line fare. In First Class, your seats will provide 41 inches of legroom with a leg rest and tablet holder included. You will get one dedicated flight attendant, a full-course meal and complimentary drinks, two free checked bags, access to a lounge, and faster check-in lines and express security at specific airports.

Note: Comparemost checks prices on all four Alaska fare classes at the same time in real time so it will quickly reveal whether buying up from the Saver to the Main cabin or from the Main cabin to Premium makes economic sense based on your trip.

A Network of Destinations

Alaska's network is tailored toward the American West Coast and expands on to that base with an expanding global reach. As a leading U.S. Carrier on the West Coast, Alaska Airlines identifies Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) as its central hub, offering a total of 104 non-stop destinations from its main hub as of 2025.

  • Seattle-Tacoma – As its primary hub, SEA is truly Alaska's jewel. SEA is also the closest city that connects the mainland US and Japan at just 7% closer than San Francisco and 13% closer than Los Angeles, making SEA the top gateway for West Coast International flights.
  • Portland – Alaska Airlines' secondary hub. PDX offers over 100 daily departures to 58 nonstop destinations; Alaska has been Portland's main air carrier for the past 20+ years, with more than 100 daily flights from the city, including 4 international destinations.
  • San Diego – One of Alaska's growing hubs, and it has already gained multiple new routes as the airline continues to invest in its Southern California destinations.
  • Anchorage – Alaska's gateway into its unique network of bush routes across the entire state, providing access from remote areas in Alaska to all across the United States.
  • Honolulu – Added in 2021 after the merger with Hawaiian Airlines, this flight path and the others following suit from Alaska Airlines provide dominant service connecting The Aloha State and The Continental US.

Alaska has unique services like the Flight Pass subscription and the Wine Flies Free program, which provide special advantages on some of its flights, and many flights guarantee luggage within 20 minutes of arrival on all of its Alaska Airlines flights.
